Darrionna is a single mother of two children. Most mornings, she wakes up tired after a restless sleep. The stresses of providing for her family seem to always catch up with her at night – and sometimes those stresses bring her to tears.
For Darrionna, quality care for her children never seemed attainable. When searching for a place to care for her two-year old child, each place she called was out of reach financially.
Watch Darrionna discuss her despairing search for care for her children:
Because Guardian Angel Settlement Association provides service based on family income, Darrionna qualified for childcare services. It was the last option for Darrionna to provide quality care for her children while she worked to provide for them, and Guardian Angel Settlement Association gave her the relief she needed.
Darrionna is sleeping better these days, and she is a better mom because of it.
Ariel is the daughter of Darrionna, a single mom with one other child. Darrionna came to Guardian Angel Settlement Association in hope of quality care for her children while she worked to provide for them. Guardian Angel Settlement Association was her final hope after an unsuccessful and overwhelming search.
Quickly, Ariel and her sibling were enrolled and Darrionna was immediately relieved. Childcare teachers and staff welcomed the family and began to assess each child’s needs. It became apparent that Ariel had speech challenges, and Darrionna alerted Ariel’s teacher that she had received speech therapy before, but the sessions were unsuccessful. Ariel’s teacher and mother established a goal to improve her impediment during her time in childcare.
Ariel’s teacher began working on her communication in her daily interactions. Together, they practiced word association in certain situations so she could express herself verbally rather than by crying. They also worked on word pronunciation through various speech exercises.
Watch Ariel’s mother, Darrionna, talk about the attention her daughter received.
Ariel’s speech improved in a short period of time, and Darrionna has continued to practice with her at home. Just recently, Ariel started to ask her mom, “Mom, did you have a good day?” when she comes to pick her up. For the first time, Darrionna was left speechless.
