Our Work

Social Services Department

We offer a wide array of programs to those in need, ranging from family services, senior citizen programs, holiday activities, youth services and programs and developmental childcare. These programs help bring stability and hope to those in need who reside in 63118 and 63104.

Emergency Assistance

Located at 2700 Cherokee, the Emergency Assistance Program provides direct assistance to families, seniors and individuals who are at risk for eviction, foreclosure and/or utility shut-off. While recognized as symptom of poverty, housing instability can also lead to financial distress for struggling households. Keeping people in their homes increases the likelihood of stable employment, good health and educational achievement.

People who receive direct housing aid also participate in one-on-one self-sufficiency counseling and/or workshops. These activities cover a variety of topics including financial literacy and budgeting, accessing community resources, negotiating payments with landlord and public utility companies, as well as finding education and employment programs.

Food Pantry

clientOver 50 million American go hungry every year? In the St. Louis Metro Area, nearly 156,000 don’t have enough to eat each day.

The Client-Choice Food Pantry  provides food assistance to people living in zip codes 63104 and 63118. The pantry stocks most staples, like canned foods, bread, pastas, rice, beans, etc. Fresh produce and meat are available on a limited basis. Rather than provide pre-boxed food, Guardian Angel allows clients to “shop” for food, based on dietary and religious needs.

Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. by Appointment.

If you have an urgent food need, you can request an emergency bag right away. Follow-up appointments are usually available within 24hrs.

Guardian Angel provides self-sufficiency counseling and workshops to people who like to learn new skills, like budgeting, preparing for job interviews and managing public benefits. Call (314)773-9027 for more information.

If you represent a school, faith-based, corporate or social group that would like to schedule regular donation drop-offs, please contact us today.

  • Food drives keep program overhead low and ensure that Guardian Angel never has to turn away someone in need.

Senior Services

No senior should have to live a life of uncertainty and need. Guardian Angel provides critical emergency assistance and self-sufficiency programs to under-resourced senior citizens who want to increase their quality of life and live independently. Seniors can take advantage of budgeting assistance, life skills training, benefits assistance and consumer education referrals. Volunteer opportunities are also available to senior citizens who want to remain active and productive in their community.
