Tequila’s Story

Tequila is a native to St. Louis’ South City, and she is the proud mother of three children. She also cares for her two step-sons that live in the area.

Ten years ago she had to abruptly leave a relationship. As a result she lost many of her possessions, housing, and overall personal security, leaving her feeling alone and helpless.

Luckily, a family member recommended Guardian Angel to Tequila. Right away GASA was able to provide her and her children food, resources, and utility assistance for an apartment she was able to obtain.  Subsequently, Tequila indulged in GASA’s social service offerings, including financial literacy courses and healthy cooking classes.  Over time she acquired the resources and skills to be independent, enabling her to overcome her new personal challenges.

Tequila is still a friendly face around Guardian Angel, and she attends cooking classes regularly.  She is grateful for the support GASA’s team has provided during the uncertain times in her life, and her future is clearer because of it.

She says Guardian Angel is “awesome,” and we think she is awesome too.

Guardian Angel is looking for St. Louis community members to teach self-sufficiency classes to our clients. These classes help provide a hand up and support as they improve the quality of their lives.
Classes can include, but are not limited to the following categories:
  • Nutrition (cooking instruction, diet)
  • Budgeting (any other financial fitness topics)
  • Art, Writing, and Other Creative Topics
  • Legal (topic areas help low-income families/individuals know their rights)
  • Wellness and Fitness
If you or someone you know might be interested in teaching a class, please call our Social Services campus at 314-773-9027 or fill out the form to get started!

The Angel Boutique Resale Shop takes donations of gently used clothing, furniture, and other household items. Store sales help to support Guardian Angel’s Early Childhood Education and Social Services programs. Volunteers are needed to help customers make their selections, sort donations, stock shelves, and operate the store register. Volunteers are asked to work 4 hour shifts. Ongoing help is desired. The Angel Boutique is open 10:00am – 4:00pm on the first Saturday and the consecutive Fridays of each month. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the form to the right or contact Lea Compton at comptonl@gasastl.org or 314-773-9027 x219.

Help teach group workshops or work one-on-one with clients.

We need volunteers to serve by teaching a personal or professional skill as part of our self-sufficiency programming.
